Braids

Tea with Dadda

The tea-leaf
black as your sun-burnt forehead
twisted as my heart
from waiting to be tenderly loved
in spite of your son,
edges fray from the twist
anger pulling back
plucked from a hill
in Nuwara Eliya
so close, so close to you,
I hold your essence
in my tea-cup.
