BLOOD ORANGES

WE DRINK GINGER TEA

I peel away
the thin bark
grate the root
until my knuckles
bleed
I throw away
the red residue

you bandage my cut
curling the China cup
around my cold hands

I breathe Asian spice
and with you, walk
up the Great Wall
